Noted for playing the bassoon “with such a smooth tone that it reached the ears like a gentle summer breeze” by Twin Cities Arts Reader, Benjamin Atherholt enjoys a versatile career as chamber musician, educator, and orchestral musician. Ben has played Assistant Principal Bassoon and Contrabassoon with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and Contrabassoon with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra since 2006 & 2015 respectively. He is the bassoonist and primary composer and arranger for Lyrica Baroque, and is the Instructor of Bassoon at Loyola and Tulane Universities. Ben plays a Mollenhauer contrabassoon and a Heckel bassoon and holds a B.M. in performance and composition from Oberlin Conservatory.
